Home, Sweet Home

We've had a travel-filled month of July, but we're finally back home in West Seattle for a while. Here are some of the highlights.

Port Angeles, Washington
We didn't take many pictures of our Fourth of July adventure at the Browning Ranch. I can only assume it's because we were having too much fun roasting marshmallows, competing in a bocce ball tournament, and eating fabulous food. I did manage to get a video of the patriotic kazoo band/sing along.  Brilliant!

Oahu, Hawaii
We had a very relaxing week in Hawaii.  We enjoyed great food, warm beaches, and fun times with our friends!  Cecily's family hosted a wonderful out-of-towners picnic, and served delicious Hawaiian food and drinks.

We had a great little protected beach on Waikiki right down the street from our condo. It was maybe a five minute walk to get there, had some shade trees, wasn't too crowded, and was perfect for Marley to play in! We spent most every morning there.

We were usually pretty worn out after our mornings at the beach.  There was a lot of whole-family afternoon napping

I realized that we didn't take any pictures of the inside of our condo (it was really nice), but have at least 20 of our view from the lanai.

We went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay with our friends, Kristie, Colin, and Annie. It was a little scary for me at first, but totally amazing, and well worth the trip. Jeff and Kristie even saw a giant sea turtle!  Marley antic of the day: I brought him down to the water to rinse the sand off of him.  I tried to discretely strip off his swim suit and wrap him in a towel.  But before I could get the towel around him, he did a naked belly flop into the sand.  And THEN, he ran away from me.  I mean like completely naked, covered in sand, running across a crowded public beach.  Laughing his head off.  With me chasing him.  Needless to say, I had a hard time keeping on my serious, "don't run away from me in a crowd" face.

Ah, Dustin and Cecily's wedding day. In this photo, you can see the naive smiles on our faces as we wait for the shuttle that never came. That's not true, it did come back for us eventually, but not until after the ceremony was over:( At least we got there in time for the food. You can also see that Jeff and I are sporting the double-front-kid-carry, our signature look for this trip. (Thanks to Kristie for the loan of her ring sling AND Beco baby carriers!) Yes, Marley is quite heavy to be worn on the front like that, but he convinced Jeff by explaining, "so I can see your face, Daddy." Who can say no to that?!? What you might not be able to see from this photo is that Marley had not taken a nap that day, and thus had thrown a complete fit when I tried to get him dressed in the outfit I had chosen for him. He wanted to wear the green shirt that he had worn the day before. Normally, I let him pick his own clothes out, even if they happen to be dirty. But, since we were going to a wedding, I had to take a stand. He was not happy about this and started putting the green shirt on OVER what I had dressed him in. He got it over his head and one arm before getting in the carrier and falling instantly asleep. I, of course, snuck it off of him once he was sleeping soundly.

Our trip to Oahu wouldn't have been complete without a hike up Diamond Head Crater. Not realizing the park closed at 6 o'clock, we first tried to do the hike in the evening. Ultimately, we ended up doing it at the hottest part of the day, but the view (and the shave ice afterward) were well worth it.

We NEVER would have stopped at Giovanni's Shrimp Truck had it not been for Cecily's recommendation. Jeff, of course, got the super hot and spicy shrimp, and Marley and I shared the lemon shrimp. Yum!

Wyandotte, Michigan
Check back later for photos from our Michigan trip.

AHHH!! You made it to Giovanni's! =) You should have signed your name on the truck! I have my name signed a couple of times. =)
So sorry about the shuttle. But we're glad you made it to the wedding! Marley looked great in his yellow shirt. =)
