Word of the day: "Car"

Words are just flying out of this kid's mouth. Today we were looking out the window watching cars drive by. Each time one passed, I would say "Car!". Pretty soon Mars caught on and started calling out "Car!" before I could even say it. His favorite word lately is "hot". He makes sure to remind us anytime we're near the stove - "Ot!" - or the fireplace - "Ot!" - or if we've just sat down with a plate of "ot" food.

He hasn't said the word "no" yet. We try really hard not to overuse it, so maybe that's why. My teacher training has me wired to phrase things in the positive ("sit down" instead of "no standing" and "keep food on your plate" rather than "no throwing food", for example). He definitely knows how to tell us he doesn't like something, usually by shaking his head, or pushing it/us away.

On a funny note: I think Marley learned to tell his first joke. Jeff asks, "What does an evil sheep say?" Mars replies, "Bhaaa!"

I noticed that when Marley was over here, and you offered him something, he shook his head "no", instead of saying the word. I gotta remember teaching it that way!

We'll see how long it lasts. I'm sure he'll figure out "NO" sooner or later. I guess it's just prolonging the inevitable:)
